FIRMWARE HISTORY
- Name: Firmware update V3.5 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 01 Sept 2020
- Benefits and improvements:
- Fixed touch AF misfocus regression on GH5.
- Add iris display for Sigma CINE 18-35/1.8 T2.0 on JVC and Panasonic. At the time of writing, Blackmagic and Olympus will not display the iris value because they don't support lenses' aperture rings in general.
- For diagnostics the firmware version of the lens, if available, is now appended to the EXIF lens name.
- Sigma 50-100/1.8 DC HSM Art 016, Sigma 135/1.8 DG HSM Art 017 and Tamron 15-30/2.8 VC USD A012 now fixed to perform initial calibration only once. The camera needs to be switched off and in the case of the zoom lens (50-100/1.8) the zoom needs to be rotated back and forth between the wide and the tele end once to store lens calibration data.
- Name: Firmware update V3.4 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 23 August 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- Fixed issue with BMPCC4K where if lenses are swapped without turning power off autofocus sometimes ceases to function.
- Fixed issue with using external USB power supply where camera would not connect to the lens again after power-off/power-on without first disconnecting the external USB power source.
- Add option to combine OIS and Electronic Stabilization (ES) at the same time with supported Panasonic cameras. (However do NOT use with GX8. Click on the question mark [?] next to the option and read the online help for further details.)
- Continuous AF is now enabled on all Olympus cameras, including in movie mode, except when used with certain Tamron lenses. (Previously only available on the E-M1 series in still photo mode.) However, C-AF may have unsatisfactory speed and accuracy. Many lenses are incompatible with C-AF because they have high latency and they are unable to execute frequent small movements in a timely fashion.
- On Olympus the custom function button L-Fn can be configured on the camera body (if supported).
- Stability improvement for Panasonic cameras.
- Name: Firmware update V3.31 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 22 June 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- With Olympus and Panasonic cameras, when power is turned on, the lens will now return to the same focus position after traversing its focus range. For this to work the 'park focus' option needs to be turned off and the lens needs to support distance information.
- Fixed compatibility issue with lens firmware version 2 of Tamron 10-24/3.5-4.5 VC HLD B023E.
- Fixed issue with Sigma 50-100/1.8 DC HSM ART 016 and Sigma 135/1.8 DG HSM ART 017 on Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K whereas if the lens and Speed Booster or Smart Adapter have been attached first before the camera is turned on there will be no iris display.
- Name: Firmware update V3.20 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 10 May 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- Fixed occasional maximum aperture detection problem with Tamron 10-24/3.5-4.5 VC HLD B023 lens.
- EXIF improvement.
- Name: Firmware update V3.10 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 22 Mar 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- Support for 'AF Stop' button on some Canon super-telephoto IS lenses as a customizable button on GH5.
- For Smart Adapter only (MB_EF-m43-BT2/MB_EF-m43-BM1), enhanced support for the EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS 'Nano' USM + PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter combination with power zoom control from the camera body. WARNING: EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS 'Nano' USM is incompatible with any Speed Booster, even after modification by removing the rear plastic shroud, because the rear element of the lens interferes with the front element of Speed Booster at 18mm (before boost). If PZ-E1 zooms the lens to 18mm by force, serious damage may occur. Restrict use of the EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS lens to the Smart Adapter without optics.
- Added EXIF lens names for Sigma 17-50/2.8 EX DC OS HSM, Tokina AT-X 11-20/2.8, Zeiss Otus 28/1.4, 55/1.4 and 85/1.4.
- Autofocus is enabled for Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K but performance may not meet expectation. Some lenses such as Canon EF85/1.2L II USM and Tokina Opera 50/1.4 may require external 5V power to be connected to the micro USB port of the adapter. Blackmagic autofocus may have great difficulty locking onto the target for Canon EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS STM and Canon EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS 'Nano' USM.
- Fixed compatibility issue with Tamron 10-24/3.5-4.5 VC HLD B023E.
- Fixed EXIF lens name when Canon EF Extender and Kenko Pro300 teleconverters are stacked and used with certain lenses.
- To promote adoption of the latest firmware we offer assurance that the upgrade is reversible by including all previous versions released in the last 2 years (in the same download). Within Metabones App you may select which version to downgrade to. However, if your firmware is was last updated in 2016 or earlier (version 2.60 or older), Metabones App may advise you that your upgrade will indeed be irreversible and the most you could downgrade was to the beginning of 2017 (version 2.65).

For older cameras, the jog lever on the adapter can be used for iris control on JVC and Panasonic cameras just like before.
- Fixed AFC stability issue (AFC may still have poor performance and/or accuracy, even when 'Focus/Release Priority' is set to 'FOCUS', unless the camera supports phase-detection autofocus.)
- Fixed issue with a legacy lens without distance information focusing to infinity on its own when switched from MF to AF on Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera.

- Name: Firmware update V2.5 for Canon EF to Micro Four Thirds Smart AdapterTM/Speed Booster®
- Release date: 4 Nov 2016

- Olympus OM-D E-M1 PDAF improvements.
- Option to park focus to infinity upon shutdown to shorten its length for storage. Some lenses may disregard this setting but never park focus, and most of these are internal focus lenses which do not require parking. STM lenses always observe the option setting.
- Changing iris on Panasonic using the adapter's jog lever requires first pushing the jog lever inward to activate. There is a customizable option in Metabones App to get back the previous behavior of activating jog lever iris control whenever the jog lever is pushed in, up, or down. In both cases, jog lever iris control terminates with the control relinquished to the camera body by pushing the lever inward.

FIRMWARE HISTORY:
Ef: Freedom Mac Os Catalina
- Name: Firmware update V0.63 for EF-E Smart AdapterTM MARK IV/V and EF-E Speed Booster® ULTRA
- Release date: 02 Oct 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- Improved exposure accuracy during continuous shooting.
- Improved AF stability with Tamron 35-150/2.8-4 VC OSD A043
- If a hardware fault is detected with the aperture diaphragm there will be a very bright red blink with the LED of Mark V, Speed Booster II, CINE Smart Adapter and CINE Speed Booster. If that happens, check the aperture diaphragm if it is stopping down as commanded using the 'Aperture (DoF) Preview' function. Bring the lens to the lens vendor for a check-up. If the LED is lit with normal brightness in red it is just an indication of operation in Advanced mode. The aperture diaphragm hardware fault indicator is very bright.
- For diagnostics, the firmware version of the lens is now appended to the EXIF lens name.
- Name: Firmware update V0.62 for EF-E Smart AdapterTM MARK IV/V and EF-E Speed Booster® ULTRA
- Release date: 22 June 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- Increased AF speed on a camera with PDAF support when adapter is in Advanced Mode. With some camera bodies, for example A7 Mark III, AF-C will now focus in-between frames when camera is set to continuous drive (MID, HI, HI++) and the aperture is f/11 or faster. (f/8 for A7II and A7RII) Some vintage lenses, such as the original Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG EX HSM (not Art), does not focus accurately in Advanced mode, but they will continue to work in Green mode. PDAF works only within a small central area. Outside, CDAF is used. It is not possible to support all PDAF points because metadata about the optical formula of the lens would be required, which we don't have.
- Improved exposure accuracy and AF accuracy in Advanced Mode.
- For CINE Smart Adapter (MB-EF-E-BT6) only, add support for the MZ/PZ switch of Canon PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter (with EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 'Nano' USM).
- Fixed compatibility issue with lens firmware version 2 of Tamron 10-24/3.5-4.5 VC HLD B023E.
- Fixed AF issue with Sigma 50-500/4.5-6.3 DG APO OS HSM with 1.4x teleconverter when zoomed away from 50mm.
- Fixed compatibility issue with certain lenses and NEX-5N and one of the following: CINE Smart Adapter, CINE Speed Booster, Speed Booster ULTRA II or Smart Adapter V.
- Fixed IBIS issue during continuous shooting
- Name: Firmware update V0.61 for EF-E Smart AdapterTM MARK IV/V and EF-E Speed Booster® ULTRA
- Release date: 10 May 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- Fixed focus issue when Drive Mode is M (medium) or H (high) and Focus Area is set to Tracking on Sony A9 (ILCE-9) after upgrading camera firmware to 5.0. (NOTE: no autofocus between frames in Advanced Mode. Use Green Mode for AF-C still photography.)
- Fixed excessive hunting with one-shot AF if camera is turned on while mode dial is set to movie.
- Fixed occasional maximum aperture detection problem with Tamron 10-24/3.5-4.5 VC HLD B023 lens.
- Added CN-E Cinema EOS Prime Lens iris display.
- EXIF improvements.
- Name: Firmware update V0.60 for EF-E Smart AdapterTM MARK IV/V and EF-E Speed BoosterTM ULTRA
- Release date: 22 Mar 2019
- Benefits and improvements:
- AF reliability improvement and hunting reduction.
- Support for 'AF Stop' button on some Canon super-telephoto IS lenses as a customizable button which can be assigned to any of the more than 50 functions available using the 'Focus Hold Button' menu item on A6300, A6500, any A7 series camera and A9.
- For CINE Smart Adapter (MB_EF-E-BT6) only, enhanced support for the EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS 'Nano' USM + PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter combination with power zoom control using PlayMemories Smart Remote Control App or the zoom rocker switch on some Sony cameras. WARNING: EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS 'Nano' USM is incompatible with any Speed Booster, even after modification by removing the rear plastic shroud, because the rear element of the lens interferes with the front element of Speed Booster at 18mm (before boost). If PZ-E1 zooms the lens to 18mm by force, serious damage to the lens and/or the Speed Booster may occur. Restrict use of the EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS lens to the Smart Adapter without optics.
- Added EXIF lens names for Sigma 17-50/2.8 EX DC OS HSM, Tokina AT-X 11-20/2.8, Zeiss Otus 55/1.4 and 85/1.4. (The EXIF lens name feature is not available for Mark I, Mark II, Mark III and the original Speed Booster, and is not supported by older Sony cameras.)
- Fixed EXIF LensInfo field for Canon EF 70-200/4L IS II USM and Canon EF Extenders.
- Fixed EXIF lens name when Canon EF Extender and Kenko Pro300 teleconverters are stacked and used with certain lenses.

- Added autofocus support during high speed and medium speed continuous drive (up to 10fps) on Sony A9 ('Green' mode only). Experiment with the 'Priority Set in AF-C' setting for the best compromise between hit rate and frame rate for your shooting style. Overall performance depends on lens used. The camera does not use hunting while tracking is in operation. If subject movement exceeds the measurement range of the OSPDAF sensor, autofocus pauses. This is by design. The measurement range of the OSPDAF sensor decreases as the focal length increases. Except for the original Mark I Smart Adapter this feature is available for all subsequent Speed Boosters and Smart Adapters.
- Enabled AF illuminator (Advanced mode only).
- There is an AF accuracy issue when using AF-S or DMF on Sony A9 and telephoto lenses with Metabones in 'Advanced' mode, which affects this and all previous firmware versions. Green mode, which is set by default on Sony A9, is not affected (except for the original Smart Adapter Mark I, which does not support 'Green' mode). A9 users are advised to not use 'Advanced' mode but stick with the default 'Green' mode. In addition, some telephoto lenses rarely exhibit this issue, such as EF 200/2.8L II USM, EF 400/5.6L USM and Tamron 150-600/5-6.3 VC USD A011. Investigation of this issue is still in progress.
- Fixed AF issue with EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM and EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS Nano USM lenses.
- Fixed smooth iris support for 40/2.8 STM, 50/1.8 STM and Sigma 50-100/1.8 DC HSM Art 016.
- Fixed CN-E 18-80 T4.4 L IS KAS S servo zoom used by the camera's zoom rocker and the lens' rocker in alternation.
- Fixed CN-E 18-80 T4.4 L IS KAS S auto iris when adapter is in Green mode, where extremely bright conditions no longer causes the iris to close completely.
- Fixed aperture display with Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM lens and Kenko Pro 300 teleconvertter.
- Corrected W-T zoom scale display in 'Advanced' mode for Speed Booster and Kenko Pro 300 teleconverter (except Mark I/II/III and original Speed Booster).
- Faster aperture diaphragm for still photography in Advanced mode when Live Vide mode is set to Setting Effect OFF.
- LED (if available) now shows solid magenta when adapter is connected to USB waiting for Metabones App to run.
